Coast to Coast May 2007

Plenty of discussion on the Syncro forum

Coast-to-Coast at the beginning of May… was our first joint venture with the The Brickyard, aimed at raising money for the charity, The Forgetmenot Trust, whilst trying a new style of event.

Taking the form of a Navigational Scatter, the idea was to drive from Sellafield in the Lake District to Robin Hood’s Bay in the East, through the Cumbrian fells, the Dales and Yorkshire Moors – but driving as many pre-ordained off-road sections as possible, in whatever order seemed sensible. The scoring system was somewhat abstruse, but additional points could be garnered by visiting or photographing specific named places en-(or off)-route. Three groups of 4 or 5 vehicles took part, and navigators as well as drivers had their work cut out at times, especially if combining both roles…

Undoubtedly, everyone agreed some great sights and sites were seen, it was brilliantly recced, planned and organised by Kev Horler with help from several good souls. Simon Baxter and Paul Richardson provided ideas, support and web services – many thanks to The Brickwerks for the many prizes – presented high above Robin’s Hood Bay, well after dark in a high gale that taxed the wild camping spirit but didn’t quite break it! We raised over £200.
